The Western Round-Up project allows for online access to student newspapers from Western College, made its official debut on Reunion Weekend, June 15-17. The collection aims to preserve, digitize and provide access to the student newspaper collection published at Western College from 1930 to 1971.
Fifty-five years after serving as editor for the Western Round-Up, Catherine Ross Loveland, a graduate of the Western College for Women in 1952, was instrumental in getting the project off the ground, through her generous donation.
Today, as an active member of the Western College Alumnae Association, Loveland wanted to help provide better access to the newspapers, which previously were available only in paper format in the Western College Memorial Archives. Loveland believes it is the uniqueness of the Western experience that will lead the collection to being well-used and received by researchers. She is thrilled that the newspapers are now so accessible to the public thanks to the new collection. "The whole concept is really unbelievable to me," she says.
